I'ved decided that I do like some cichlids so thought I'd see what i can do!!?

It would be a 4ft tank

I think i'd like a dwarf cichlid tank but also like angels aswell, the angels i buy would be a good size breeding pair.

i'ved had a look though my book and liked most of the smaller cichlids i'ved seen so wondering what I can put togther???

Oki okey i'll make it easier, here's all the smaller cichlids i like in me book. I think a 4ft is gernally 50UK gallons....

Agassiz's Dwarf Cichlid
Cockatoo/Crested Dwarf Cichlid
African Butterfly Cichlid
Viejita Dwarf Cichlid
Regans/Striped Julie
Black and White Julie
Auratus
Ram
Kribs
angels

Thats all of them!! there all aorund 3 inch according to me book apart from the regans julie at 5inch, auratus at 4.3" kribs at 4inch and angels at 5inch.

you have mixes of new worlds and africans. i would make a choice as to what you want to keep. if you choose africans, choose which lake you prefer. lake tanganyika and malawi have different chemistry and so have different requirements.

new world will be your best bet and you fish are up too you it is your tank and it sounds like u know what cichlids need for the most part ......

Which are which? My book doesn't actually go into great detail on cichlids, just gives reference to a varitey of fish!!

well lets see if I can clear this up for you

Regans/Striped Julie= tang
Black and White Julie= tang
Auratus= malawi
kribs are riverine west africans
and I am not totally sure as to the origins of the african butterfly cichlid

with the apistos select one species since the females all look pretty much the same and there will be hybirdization between them, and they like to have a hariem of 1 male to 2 females.
depending on the tank size the angels might be in a spot of trouble when the darves decide to spawn, and they are prolific spawners at that.

So all of the dwarfs come from the same area?? and would beable to be kept together?

I was thinking more long the lines of keeping 1 of each apart from the angels.

Read through another book and it says as the name suggests the afrian butterly is native to the afican continet but more specifically Liberia and Sierre Leone.

Apistos....you lost me???

lol Vip, dont get him confused,

dwarf african butterflys and kribs can live happily with rams and other dwarf cichlids, well atleast mine do, just becareful during breeding time they all get agresive

Hmmmm midas aye...same to you!! :p

cheers dwarf dude thats the answer i was looking for, well as i say i'm looking at getting 1 of each but will they still get rnady and maybe agresive when the time comes?

they mite, if you get one blue ram and one gold ram they will breed(if its a male and female), its just the colour thats the difference, so i recomend getting females for most cu with my experience they are calmer then all of my males

oki dokey, might be difficult that if i have get my LFS to order them in though!!

He only has angels, kribs, small oscars and severums at the moment for cichlids
