when i came home fom holiday one of my cories wasnt moving very much and a lot of its top fin as gone. Now, with closer inspection today ive seen part of the cories tail at the bottom is red and also he has sort of like red worms prodturing out of the bottom of it.

Please can you help? unfrtunately i have no test kits (im waiting for one from pfk) so i cant measure my water levels

Are they worms if so move the fish out of the tank.
Red worms are usually camallanous they turn red when they have been feeding on the host.

ive got some pics to help, when i looked closer after i had to take the fish out of the water to photo it, its got red fins and not red worms but this still isnt right as none of the other cories have this.

on this pic you can see that one of its fins has completely gone, the top fin (on top of its body, the dorsal?) is tiny aswell

the red fins, please note that the fish was out of the water for only about 10 seconds whilst the picture was taken, it is now back in the tank (i just didnt wanna get flamed for cruelty if people thought it was)

hope that helps

Red fins like that is septicemia.
You will need a bacterial med.
Best to issolate the sick fish as the bacteria from the fish can enter the tank.
What are your water stats as septicemia can be caused by bad water quality.

Look under septicemia.

Anti internal bacteria med by interpet but its only a mild bacterial med.
You really need antibiotics as that looks bad.
Septicemia is blood poisoing, and once it progresses even antibiotics its hard to cure.

i cant measure water stats as my test kit is arriving but i haven yet recieved it (my other one was quite old so i thought it was best to replace it so its gone now),
ill try to get that medicine, however, in the small tank that i could use as a hospital tank, i have no filter for it so that would be a problem. As you said its bad, i know this sounds wrong, but you it be betetr to euthanize it? I havent really got the money to buy a filter for the tank and i dont even have a heater, im ill prepared to be completely honest. If i was to euthanize it, how you would do it?

in future i know i need to buy a heater and a small filter to have in that tank.

thanks

Will

Don't always need a filter in a hospital.
You only need filters when meds don't wipe the beneifcal bacteria out in the filter.
But you do need a heater and airstone.
Need plenty of aeration in the tank with meds.
Septicemia hard to cure once it has progressed, and the fish looks bad with the fins being really red.
How is he acting.
Is he laying to oneside in the tank and being lethagic.
You could try and save him by adding anti internal bacteria med by interpet to the tank.
I would do a water change and add the med.
You can sometimes lose quite a few fish when a fish has septicemia, so I would medicate the whole tank.

uh oh. Im not going to go to the fish shop and see if i can get one. Is an antibacterial medicine by waterlife or king british alright to use? My very local fish shop stocks all 3 so if one cannt be got wil lthe others be ok?

I would try and get the interpet one.
Never used king british meds.
The waterlife meds just treats the water.
You can dilute bacteria down in the water by water changes.
<a href="http://www.waterlife.co.uk/waterlife/myxazin.htm" target="_blank">http://www.waterlife.co.uk/waterlife/myxazin.htm</a>

Have you noticed in the waterlife article on myxazin it says control certain desease but not cures.
Once bacteria gains entry through cuts and wounds you need an internal bacteria med.

well the cory has died the day i got some med so im going to add the med to the tank to make sure the fish currently dont get septecemia. How is best to add it, how many doses?

Bless him didn't look good.
R.I.P.
The anti internal bacteria med by interpet you redose in 4 days time I think.
