I made a small pond in a basin to store unwanted plant snippings, like hornwort since i'm scared they'll spread like crazy if i haphazardly dump it. Then i discovered these tiny water beetles. Most of the water beetles i found online were big and didnt match the discription.
They are so small, i can fit 10-15 of them across a single finger.

They might be of the family Dytiscidae, the predacious diving beetles, but for a Canadian guessing about the beetles in Malaysia, that's far from precise.

That's what i was worried about. My local libraries aren't that big, and i'm not sure where to find sources online about aquatic invertebrates 😅
They do look pretty similar to the google images, so Thanks!

Somewhere out there, a beetle lover is saying "Ooh, that person has dwarf predatory diving beetles! How lucky!"

I hope so, they are pretty cute, and reproduce pretty rapidly. I kinda want to introduce some into my fish tank but will probably be gobbled up by the fishes 😂

I've had young local predacious divers get into tanks with live food. You may have caught a hatchout that will grow larger and become dangerous. No fish I have here ever ate them, but they did catch juveniles before I caught them. They can be very secretive.

I almost always have young fish in my tanks as I like fish breeding.

I never really try to breed them since i don't have many tanks nor places for them to live. Even if they do have fry, i just let them be eaten

They eat baby fish and will live happily in the pond for as long as the water temperature is suitable. I prefer to remove them and let them play in the local creek or somewhere you don't have small fish.

I'm not sure if the diving beetles i'm keeping are juveniles or a completely different species, since they look more like food for fry than fry eaters. But i will keep it in mind and not let any near my fish tanks.
