ok These are the two I can get for so much cheaper than the jewel stands but do you think they will support the weight of my tank its a rekord 120 Approx 30 us gallons

I don't mind putting in extra support if i need to.

It probably will - but I wouldn't do it.

Those desks are not designed to take the kind of weight you'd be subjecting them to.

I know that Juwel cabinets are flat pack jobs, but they do have far more uprights closer together than a standard desk.

Yeah butI'm finding it difficult to afford a jwel one plus i dont really like the design of the one for the 120. Any other suggestions it needs to be abl;e to hold an external.

Would a diy project be out of the question?

if you made a timber frame and clad it you could then add cupboards to suit.

It wouldnt be out the question just dont know how to right I';m off to the diy section then!

i was looking at the second link you posted as a support for my new 3ft tank.. in the end i decided against it as there seems to be reasonable support the one end with the drawers as it has 2 supports the width of the top close together, but the other end dosent have support going all the way across.
In the end i bought a 3ft jewel stand for £65 as i would rather spend an extra £30 instead of cleaning up 30 gallons of water one day

The term "Buy it cheap, buy it twice" comes to mind. Partical board and wood sticker isn't what I'd use to hold a tank with water for a long haul. Beisdes when the stand fails you'll have to not only replace the stand but a tank as well. Go for plywood at least :good: if not "Solid".

If you use and 'factory' stands your in for a nasty shock... :)

We've got 2 of our tanks (120l) sat on "oxford" TV stands - So has AndyJ - The size is great for Tropiquarium88's and other tanks of a similar size...

Its rated upto 50KG for a TV but easily holds the 120L tanks. I do however remove teh feet so that the weight is spread across the base ;)

Damn i missed that one whilst i was searching argos for a stand.
Im happy with my fluval stand (got for £60 in the end) and the black goes well with my leather sofas

Yeah I know they're using partical boards for aquarium stands but they do try to use thicker stock or better bracing (unlike something that holds monitor and a vase :p ). It wasn't designed for holding serious weight for a long term. I've have some prefab stands but it's lami-partical wood but it's designed with the tank in mind (and not a monitor).

I wouldnt mind if i could find one for 60 but all my lfs want 80 or more.

it would work put i would not to it i did something similar with a cheap argos stand when i sold the tank and inspected the stand it was bent and the wood had become very flemsy i dont plan on doing it again and the tank was only 12gal

Well its on a cupboard thing now and had no problems but icant fit my new external under there so i need a taller one
