:rip: someone in my tank is killing my guppies, i have found 2 dead in 2 days and one was headless

in our tank (5ftx2ftx2ft) we have

1 x peppered Corydoras

10 x black neon

2 x dwarf gourami

2 x cockatoo red

3 x guppy ( 1 male left out of 3 and 2 females left out of 6)

3 x tetra neon

2 x plec

the gourami, female guppies and the cockatoo red are the latest additions to the tank and have been in there about a week. we also had a male siamese fighter (LFS also said he would be fine in our tank after telling them what we already had) and he died the other day but there was no evidence of being hurt by another fish. any idea who the phantom guppy muncher is? cos it all seems to be happening at night and we dont want to lose any more fish as we also have 2 baby guppies in another tank :good:

just to let you know neons do not get on with siamese fighters (bettas) as they nip their fins (cold be the same with guppys too, neons don't like fish with flashy fins). Also siamese fighters are very senstive to water conditions.

Sorry I can't help with who's eating your fish though.

What is a cockatoo red? Is it a cichlid? Most likely, your guppies are dying and the others are munching on them.

Its an Apistogramma, Dwarf Cichlid. Id say Gourami's are a candidate.

had no dead fish for 2 days now, the gouramis seem to be sticking to the bottom of the tank around the plants and rock, and the guppies are pretty much sticking around the top when they're not scavanging for food. guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Neons are best kept in groups of 6+

we did have 6 neon tetras but the rest have died, they were the 1st fish we bought for our original tank. the ones that are left seem happy enough shoaling with the black neons :good:

Bettas are not compatable with guppies. THats just as bad as putting it with another betta. Guppys have fins that are too colorful and big. Don't put bettas with guppies and goldifsh, the two biggest no-no's based on their fin size, to a betta they are just another betta.

It would either be the gouramis or the betta.

if by betta you mean the siamese fighter he died after 2 days and as i said the LFS said it was compatible with the fish we had
