Hi all,

We bought a second hand 110l tank and were getting geared up to do a switch from our 65l but have decided upon inspecting it that the condition just isn't good enough - we are scared it may come apart (or more likely, leak a bit) as someone has clearly re-sealed it at some point in the past, which we didn't notice before. Thank goodness it wasn't a very expensive mistake. It will be fine as a vivarium or partially filled so we will keep it as a spare, but have decided that rather than go through this again we will invest in a new, or as new, aquarium.

Anyway, of the makes/models currently available to buy new in my LFS, most are juwel and are 41cm deep and the surface that I have to put it on is 40cm exactly. I don't want to buy a new cabinet as I don't have space for it, the sideboard we have is pretty sturdy and solid. Furniture is light oak so don't want something which will clash!

Ideally i'd like a rectangular, black lidded aquarium around 100 long, and with as much capacity as possible but I can't seem to find anything matching that spec and it's getting mighty frustrating so I wondered if anyone here could recommend a suitable one. Links would be mighty appreciated. One which comes with the right kit would be perfect!

Thanks all x

Thanks - Actually I got the last tank from gumtree so have seen that one, unfortunately it's 1cm too wide (argh!!!) and I am a bit of a newb - although I would love to tank on a mature tank I just couldn't transfer fish that far (I am in West Kent a good hour or so away).

Has anyone any experience with this brand? http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aquarium-supplies/aquariums/aquael-aquariums/aquael-classic-rectangle-kit-100.html

Seems to be the only one I can find of the right size?

Still after any advice...anyone?!

What's better - fluval roma 200 or juwel rio 180 (I think the 1cm overlap will be ok... ??) ?

Have a look at marina style 160, it is 100cm x 40cm x 40cm. They sell them at pets at home. The build quality is great but the filters ic comes with are not very good so could do with being upgraded

Thanks le0n, I had seen that one online my only concern was the filters it comes with, if I end up needing another filter I may as well pay a bit more and get a good brand...? Will go and take a look at my local p@h to compare although I think husband has his eye on a juwel!

I have the Roma 240 (120cm wide and 40cm deep according to the specs) which is a lovely tank. However I notice you said in the OP that you want 100cm but the subtitle says 120cm!

Regarding the overlap if any, is it not possible to pull your existing cabinet away from the wall by a small amount so that you can put a sheet of ply underneath? The reason I ask is that my 120x40cm tank weight something like 50kgs empty and all of that weight is obviously glass. The edge you are talking about overlapping is one of the two heaviest sheets in an aquarium which would have nothing underneath it to support it apart from the plastic base. On my tank that front pane weighs about 33% of the total tank weight, or 16KG!

I'll measure my actual tank when I get home and let you know exactly how large it is but the spec sheet does say 120cm by 40cm for both the cabinet and the tank.

This is a link to it b the way http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aquarium-supplies/aquariums/fluval/fluval-roma-aquariums/fluval-roma-240-designer-aquarium-only.html

The Roma 200 is also only 40cm deep and is 100cm wide too :)

Sorry, the cabinet is 120 long in total but really I would like a little space at the end for plugs etc so 100 would be ideal but 101 would still be fine!

You make a very good point about the overlap, I think it is probably safer to stick with the 40cm tank but the sheet of ply is an excellent idea, I would never have thought of that so thank you. Exact measurements would be great, thanks.

I'll measure it tomorrow for you :) unless someone else has done it before me (a few here have the Roma 200 or 240 tanks).

Thanks. I will wait til the weekend and go have a look at all the recommended tanks. see which one looks nicest and see whether I could use the plywood idea.

Thanks all!
