Hi there pink guppy...

Well, I have to say, that one's got me stumped.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but it doesn't look 'right' to me; something about its head suggests that it's been stunted or that it was perhaps born with something wrong with it; either way it doesn't look like a 'normal' healthy fish should. Hope someone can give you a proper ID as to species.

Oh, I forgot to say; there are no real freshwater sharks; they're all 'fish'. Some species just get called sharks because they resemble (slightly in most cases!) real marine sharks :)

it looks a bit like a deformed denisoni barb to me

Rasbora caudimaculata (Greater/Red Sissortail Rasbora)?

Looks a bit like a chalceus but it would be much bigger if 18 months old.

Agree with the others, it does look a bit odd, stunted maybe.

Its a baby Cigar Shark, (leptobarbus sp. possibly hoevenii) that should easily hit 2 foot inside 18 months (mine did)

Its spine is arching upwards, a deformity seen when large fish are kept in small tanks

hi all,

thanks for all the replies think it definatley could be a (Red Fin) Cigar Shark or the Chalceus erythrurus.

its always looked a bit odd with the bending on its body thats why we had it as my son felt sorry for it,

Was really surprised at the amount of replies i got, thank you all so much will look in to these types of fish more now :)

Whatever they are, they look like they will get quite large. Make sure you have a large enough tank for it :)

over the last couple days weve had fish been killed and gone missing i did ask about in the emergencies section here am contacting one of the largest fish centres by us shirley aquatics to ask them and see if they can help us at all to re home the shark
