Hi all
I just posted this in emergencies but they suggested I try here.
My betta tank has sprung a leak this evening and my options are
a. get the 2 foot tank out of the loft and clean it and set it up now
b. put him in my main tank with the black neons, 1 blue ram, 1 hoplo cat and kuhli loach
c. put him in a heated bucket with airstone
I would prefer not to do option a as I don't have the space (or time if I am honest) for it.
I could get to the shop possibly tomorrow but definately Wednesday to buy a replacement tank. Would that be too long in a bucket??
please help!!
thanks

If I were you I'd put him in the bucket with heater and airstone overnight, using as much tank water as you can salvage, top up with dechlorinated fresh. Chuck any plants etc in there as well as he can hide and feel secure. Make sure there is something over the top as they can jump. Then get up early and sort the 2 foot tank out tomorrow. If he has not had tankmates before then this might not be the best time to try it out. Hope this helps.

PS make sure the bucket has NEVER had any detergents etc in it.

Thanks for reply
He has been in with the other tank mates in the past and was fine but never with the blue ram and it's him that I worry about as I don't know if they are too similar and will bother each other?
I'd prefer not to set up the tank in the loft as it is a 2 foot tank and I don't have anywhere to put it permanantly so I'd prefer to go and buy a replacement for this one 30cmx30cmx30cm as it fits in better. This is why I am wondering if he would be ok for 2 days in the bucket as I mightnot be able to get to the fish shop tomorrow.
Really grateful
Thanks

If the bucket is about the same size as the tank and you do regular water changes there is no reason why it would be any different to being in a tank, just less light, which for 2 days shouldn't be a problem. The change might stress him out a little though but probably less than the ram would. I have no experience with those fish together though, it's up to you.

actually i'd just put in the betta in a bucket with an airstone and heater, and use aquarium sealant on the leak. 24 hours later, the betta can be put back into the orginal tank
