I'm completely new to all this, but have the opportunity to get a 37g corner tank including a few fish from someone who lives approx. an hour away. My question is will the fish survive the journey home and however long it will take me to reset-up the tank? Bearing in mind, I am planning to transport some of the tanks water, gravel etc. There are no live plants (I'll add some at some point in the future) The fish included are; Angel, Gourami, danios, tetras and a plecy. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought gouramis ate things like tetras and danios?!
Any advice would be appreciated.
Would it be more sensible to get the present owner to rehome the fish and just transport the tank?
Cheers

Angels eat tetras but if bought young can live alongside them for quite a while. Once they mature though and if the tetras are a small species they may end up becoming live bait. As far as moving tanks is concerned I would get to your LFS and ask if you can have / pay for a bunch of plastic fish bags, rubberbands and brown paper bags. Bag up the bigger fish separately with about a third water and two thirds air in the bag. Tie the top tight with the elastic band. Put the plastic bag in the paper one and you have a fish who'll be perfectly happy for your one hour journey. The tetras / danios can be bagged up probably 5 - 8 per bag.

Leave your filter sat in old tank water in a bucket for the journey. Pouring tank water through it every 15 minutes will help keep bacteria alive but you probably only need to do that once you arrive with everything.

You don't need to save all your old tank water but if you can save some it'll help the transition. Get a water carrier from your LFS and decant the water into it ready to replace at the other end. If you can have at least one person helping you for the day it'll make a huge difference as well. All the best.

Unless you know that the water parameters from the person you are getting the fish from and your water is the same, then no need to collect too much old tank water. Otherwise, I would save about 1/4 of the old tank water and collect as much water from the person you are getting the fish from. So if the water parameters are different, using the persons water to setup will make it faster to acclimate the fish back into the tank once it is setup. Then when you do your water changes, you can use your water.
