Help, Snails

Hi, I'm after some advice on getting rid of small snails in my little 34 litre, 38cm tank, they must of come in on a new plant that I have purchased lately even though I thought I washed it thoroughly. I know that Clown Loaches are good at eating snails but my tank is way to small for them and I was wondering if any other fish out there are any good for getting rid of snails that would suit a small Aquarium, I was just squashing them as I saw them and the fish thought this was great food but they have now got to prolific.

there is a product called flubenol 15 in the UK that kills snails and is harmless to fish and plants, i'm not sure if you can get it over in Australia, but i am assuming there is something similar

My LFS advised me to get a single clown loach for my small 32L tank!!!! Such bad advice as they prefer to live in groups and they need a large tank as they grow quite big! As a result ive now upgraded to a 125L costing me £350 so far all for one little clown loach as i didnt want to give him back (ive gotten quite attached to the poor little bugger) I know this tank is still not large enough ideally but as he grows i will get a bigger tank again. (They grow quite slowly) So dont let ANYONE talk you into getting one of those!

I love the Clown Loaches but I would only put a group of them in a 4 foot plus tank, ( Not having a go at you there, I would get attached too, it's not your fault you got such misinformed advice ) It's terrible that a staff member from a fish shop could give advice like that, that's worse than a used car salesman, LOL.

well it was my own fault as well as i should have researched before buying him. It was a case of asking them for advice for a snail eating fish and coming away with him. My tank is 2 and a half foot but if he gets too big before i can purchase a bigger tank ill have to give him away or back to the LFS The girl there said she had one in her tiny tank which is smaller than my small 32L and said he was happy. I doubt that!

Add Pennies to the tank!!!!!!!!!!!! they are safer then chemcials as long as the pennies are clean. Go to the bank and get some

Never use copper in a tank if you plan on having other types of invertebrates like shrimp. Supposedly copper can be absorbed into the sealant on your tank, and slowly leach out over time which will kill other invertebrates. Also avoid it if you think you might one day sell the tank...I know that I personally would consider the value of a tank decreased if it had traces of copper in it.
