i spotted this strange pointy bulge on 1 of the sarasa comets today, i finally caught it after a few hours!!

pictures are Here

probale on the 2nd page

Whats is it and what can doooooo???? :-(

As everyone knows, I am far from an expert. It does look a little like the koi pox one of mine got. It goes away on its own when the temperature becomes warmer. I also added extra pond salt to help. Hope it's something similiar for your comet. Is there anything in the pond it could have scraped itself against and the injury might be inflamed? Good luck!

Oh right, I thought it might of caught on something but it's so pointed from the above view!! there are power pots it could of bashed against :/

doesn't look healyth what ever it is!!

.....

ah just read and seen a picture of koi pox in my handy book and it describes them as 'greas spots' on the fish it's the actual scales which are damged and one has competely lost it colour which looks 'dead'

I took another close look at the pictures. 2-D is tougher to read than 3-D, unfortunately. If it's just a knocked off scale it could be irritated. My baby koi have bumped scales and lost them on rocks in tank (when much smaller) and even now occasionally do against the filters and gravel. So far they've always managed to grow the scales back. I normally just up the salt level a little, which seems to aid the healing process, and make sure all the water tests are fine. Hope someone else on this forum might have a suggestion as well. Blessings to you and your fish.

From above it looks like some kind of growth or tumor but from the side it looks like an injury were the scales have been torn off.

One of my small Koi got attacked by a Dragonfly larve which managed to pull of a few scales and injure the koi, this may be the case? Or it could be a number of other things, if the water is fine I would leave it for a few days and watch the fish carefully, there is no need to stress it out by trying to catch it or medicate unless you are sure of what you are treating. Can you get some more side on and birds eye view pictures of it in the pond? How is it acting in general?

I'ved moved it to the top pond for easier examination now.

It had been in a tub for a while and when i went to release it is was dropping onto it's side, it seemed to be a tad happier when it go into the pond. When I was trying to catch the litle begger it was diffenately active and fine.........

the water was fine on friday so I don't see it why it would of changed from then. I'll try and get our LFS guy to take a look rather than you lot struggling with pictures!!

I'll have a go at the pictures again tommorrow after college though.

I don't really want to up the anti on the salt just yet as it will affect both ponds and then if I have to treat for something else the salt just cancels out the treatment in some cases.

It might of been the sarasa that had the swim bladder problem if that makes a difference?

spotted it in the pond this morning and it was swimming around fine with the other goldfish, orfe and small koi.

By thrown do you mean knocked out of place!!??

I'm starting to think that way round really, wil have to get down to my LFS and see what medicines he has for the job
