Hi,

I've got a 30g tank which is not well... javascript:emoticon(':/')
smilie

A number of things have happened recently that I think might have lead to the water becoming unbalanced.

Firstly we moved to a new area with water that is more acid, the old filter broke and the new one (despite taking the old media and putting in the tank) does not seem to have 'matured'.

Almost all of the plants have died over the last 5 weeks and a number of fish also, although no outward signs of illness.

Testing the water has always shown a high nitrate level so i'm doing regular water changes of 15-20% every two or three days and gravel cleaning. (can this cause the filter to not mature?). GH is also high.

Yesterday the water went really cloudy or hazy for no apparent reason, it's a bit better today but still not right.

I'll get water test figures later when i get home but does anyone have any suggestions? How do you cycle a tank with fish in?

stock...

2x 3" silver sharks
2x 3" dollars
1x 4" pleccy
4x 2" clown loach
2x 1" corydoras

Any suggestions greatly appreciated...

Alex

first off, your fish will almost all outgrow a 30 gallon tank but for now, that isn't important

you say you have just moved to a new area and the water is mroe acid. When did you move?

Usually, water going cloudy is a bacterial bloom that happens when you first setup a tank and doesn't harm the fish. However, it would also mean your filter media is not mature :(

Do you have ammonia and nitrite test kits? if so, please post your results.

If your fish are just dieing of no apparent reason, it might be a pH shock if they weren't properly aclimated

can you describe the process you took to move your fish please?
