Hey guys. I lost my chart for my API test kit. I found an image online to reference. Nitrites are zero. I can't tell if my ammonia is 0, 0.25, or 0.50 because these three colors look exactly the same to me. Attached is a picture of my test tube after sitting a few minutes. I hope you guys can help.

(Side note, this tank was cycled, but I treated with tetracycline and I just want to make sure it didn't wipe out my bacterial colony.)

To me it looks like zero but I have a hard time differentiating the colors too. Can you order a new chart somehow? D:

That's a good idea. I'll go on their website later and check it all out. When I get home, I'll do a nitrate test to see what I'm looking at. I should have some nitrates. This is a planted tank, but not heavily so. I've got hornwort in there for a minute. I'm not sure if that makes a big difference in nitrate readings. If I have nitrate, I won't worry because that means that we are still cycled enough that ammonia is being converted (even if it is at a slower rate).

That test kit is known for showing Ammonia levels above 0 when its 0.

How are your fish? That will be the real test of your water quality.

It's just a single betta. She's acting fine, but she was also acting fine when we ha why may have been septicemia in the tank, too. Other inhabitants are two, maybe three nerite snails (I haven't seen the third since I put it in there, though). I was doing twice weekly water changes when I had the sorority, but with only one fish and some snails, I think I'm safe to reduce it to one water change, which is part of the reason why I've been testing my water more frequently than usual.

I've got the nitrite test solid because I see blues very well. I just don't see yellow much. I can't differentiate between yellows, I should say. I wish they could all be on a blue scale. It's the only color I can really see. Sometimes reds, but these reds can't go onto an orange trail. :/

Thanks for your help guys. I suppose this means that in a few more weeks when I get some cash flow, I'll be re-stocking my twenty! :D

it makes you paranoid with the ammonia one i was looking at it int every room in the house under different lights trying to see a colour that wasnt there but as i said you get used to it and recognise its at zero :)
