Help they seem to be going fast dont know what else to do fish are dying at an alarming rate. Not all the fish have white spots the ones that die have none. The corydorus that is ill looks like it has small blood spots on its flanks hopefully you can see on the picture.

They have whitespot if the spots are the size of a grain of salt.
You need a whitespot med.
Once you have the med raise temp to 30.
Increase aeration in the tank as the med and high temp reduce 02 in the water.
Remove black carbon from the filter if you use it.
Read meds instuctions carefully that you can use the full dose with the fish you keep.

Water change as you have a nitrite reading.
Your tank looks abit overstocked to me.

The cory bless him has septicemia hard to cure once it advances.

Any ideas what could cause the septicemia? surely not the whitespot?

I had all ready started the whitespot treatment and all other steps, thanks though for your advice :good: , it's just i have never had such a high number of deaths in such a short space of time with no symptoms.

i saw an article in PFK this month about cories and being red on the side, i cant remember the name it may be worth reading and seeing if he has what is stated in the artcicle

Septicemia can be caused by parasites, bad water quality, dirty tank, gains entry through cuts and wounds.

R.I.P the cory

Further observations on the fish are no more visible white spots (i'm still treating with protozim) lost a platty through the night.
This fish had no visible marks anywhere.
All fish are still actively feeding so no loss of appetite.I did a water change yesterday evening about 33%. One of the other platties is flicking and rubbing itself also has clamped fins it looks a little paler than usual too, deaths have obviously slowed down but until i get to the bottom of this it looks like i am going to lose them all... Any ideas anyone?

Even after water change the readings on water quality are the same I use the nutrafin mini master test kit.

What filter do you use as its better to over filter a tank and espically when its slighly overstocked.
Have you done a water change to get that nitrite reading to 0.
If you have to preform a water change during a med course you just add the correct amount of med back to the water removed.

I'm running a fluval 3+ internal filter
As i said i did the water change yesterday 33% and added the extra meds for the whitespot but the nitrite is still 0.1 which i know is not ideal but it says if its above 0.3 then it becomes harmfull to fish my nitrate is still 5. Even after water change the readings on water quality are the same I use the nutrafin mini master test kit. Just done a sample on the tap water and that is zero so i will do another water change.

Could really do with a fuval 4.
The nitrate reading fine.
Its the nitrite reading. I know its only slight but it should be 0.

I was looking at the above link thanks Wilder. It looks like i have had a spell of nitrite poisoning all the symptoms fit, hence the appearance of white spot. I just cant work out why ??? Maybe as i am slightly overstocked and as i do my maintenance om a sturday it's caught me with my pants down. What do you think? should i go for the fluval 4 now or wait a while as i am still running the meds? Could it make matters worse in the short term as my bacteria are all ready on their knees?

Thanks again for your advice and help..

If you do decide to buy a fluval 4 pllus you just put the mature sponges out of the fluval 3 into the fluval four.
If there still some room left in the filter compartment just soak new filter sponges in tank water then squeeze some beneifcal bacteria onto the new sponges.
Or you could run both filters in the tank but still transfer some mature sponges into the fluval 4.

Thanks i did get one but not a fluval 4 it turns out that they are discontinuing them according to lfs. I have an interpet pf4 it filters up to 182 litre tanks i decided to run both filters at once. The new filter should run with carbon on one side but i removed this because of the meds. I placed a new flu 3 pad in to replace the carbon. As the new filter also has media i will move half the sponge from the 3 to the 4 after a week or so.

Thanks for the help

Shane.
