saw an add for a free 3ft tank but bit off more than i could chew :shout: , went to pick it up not realizing it included fish as well, the water was brown and some of the fish look ill and deformed, so i am hopeing to do all i can to get these fish back to good health and then find some of them new homes. Not very good at diagnosis and treatments so help would really be appreciated. Oh and if you can id some of them as well i would be grateful they are a real mixed bunch.
1 ill fighter has a red patch/ulcer

Poor things when you say deformed can you explain more.
One of the cory look likes it has a red spot with a white edging to it on the gills is this correct.

Red patches can be ulcers with circling of dead white skin around the edges, with the bacterial infections need to look at the deformaties as it can point towards a fish desease which is very serious.

the two i'm most concerned about are the gourami who is very bloated looking swollen belly and the fighter, but no 2 looks an odd shape not rounded has a sort of dent under top fin (is this normal?) The cory seems ok, as does the little plec, they were all living in v.poor conditions, they belonged to this guys son who had now left home and i don't think they've had a waterchange for months and months not sure about when they were last fed, was too disgusted and polite to ask.

So no bent spines. Can you get a pic of the fish with the dent under the dorsal fin.Is the dent very deep, can you see anything in the indented area like a parasite.I would get going with a bacterial med as some do have bacterial infections.Epson salt baths are good for reducing bloating.I would give them a good flush through with some daphnia and frozen cooked peas.Check what it looks like when they go to the toilet.Poor things some of the fish look very sad.

Epson salt bath a teaspoon to a gallon.

Thanks Wilder knew would be able to help :flowers: i've got some epsom salt and was thinking about trying some interpet no9 can i use them together.
You can see the dent in the 2nd pic, more like badly formed body, no holes, patches or redness on him just a large dip, abit concave looking, looks like he has a bit missing from his tail as well.
regards Angel

You can add epson salt to a tank but with the fish you keep I wouldn't add more than two teaspoons full as you have corys and plecs.Increase aeration with the med.Indents can be a few things
I know one can be whirling desease but I would rule that out, not sure if it can mean fish tb.I would just treat the tank for now with the no9 anti internal bacteria med by interpet.Havent got time now to do a search on the indentations, as it can mean a few things.Maybe you could do a search in the morning as it getting late here now.
Indentations can be hole in the head but its not in the head regions but also the lateral line. What type of fish is it.
Here is the info for you.Hole in the Head - HITH, sometimes referred to as Head and Lateral Line Erosion - HLLE Small holes or indentations on the head of fish, advanced cases may show markings along the lateral line of the fish. They may stop eating. There are many theories out there, but no conclusive scientific evidence as to what exactly causes this disease. However, it may be attributed to poor water quality, lack of proper nutrition and/or the use of activated carbon for prolonged periods. However, there have been no scientific studies about the effects of the prolonged use activate carbon causing hole in the head, it's just speculation. Be sure to give your fish the best water that you can by performing frequent water changes. Give them vitamin enriched foods and change out or stop using activated carbon.

Angelmouse what i've been reading an improvement in water qyality can make it go away, so see how he gets on.
That the fish with the dent.

Hows the fish doing.

looking better except the bloated gourami and s.fighter, used interpet no 9 and gona use the epsom salt 24hrs before i give them the second dose of no9 on sat. the gourami is eating well now and swimming happily just has a big fat belly. the fighter is in hiding and not seen much of him but i will have a closer inspection tommorrow. If this remedy works how long before i should notice a difference in the gouramis bloated body. And is there anything else i should do or add quarantine wise before i mix with other fish so they don't carry any diseases
Thanks Regards Angel

The problem when they bloat up it can be fatal as it can be constipation which shelled peas help, or swim bladder to dropsy.
Usually best not to feed them.
Is the fish swimming ok not tipping up or laying to oneside.

I would preform the epson salt bath, carry on with the med, then shelled peas and daphnia that about all there is to do.
Have you noticed the fish going to the toilet.
