Hia,

I have spend all day closing down one tropical tank and setting up another one I have just added new gravel to the new tank but it smells very strongly of Almonds!! I am scared to finish off setting up the tank incase this gravel could harm my fish Im really dissappointed because I have worked and prepared so hard for this :-(
Advise please!!!!
Thanks,
Gamwar

Personal experience with bad gravel is easy way buy some more or put it in clean boiled water for an hour then in cold water for an hour, stick it in a sieve pour more boiled water over it to get any remaining bits and leave it to soak again in water with a little tap safe, should remove the smell and leave it shiney clean.

Hope this helps, i know it's alot of messing about but it's best to be safe.

If you rinsed the gravel plenty then I wouldn't worry as I had a similar experience, only I thought my gravel smell was like soggy wood

Didn't have any fatalities so all went well
