Hi everyone,

As i went to a not so LFS, my girlfirend saw and fell in love with Bettas, both male and females.

Now i have done a bit of research into these but i wanted to get some advice from the experts.

I have a Rio 180, with a Tetratec 1200ex.

My stocking is:

9 Zebra Danios
2 Neon Tetras
4 Emperor Tetras
1 Clown Loach

The Tetras and the loach were given to me and i wouldnt have taken them otherwise.

If i was to get a male would he be ok in with these?

Also If i had the male, would i be able to add any females at a later date and how many is advisabel to add?

Thanks

:( Danios and tetras are nippy so are not good tankmates for a male betta. Plus some male bettas simply cannot live with ANY tankmates, they can get very fiesty! If you want a male betta i suggest you get a small tank for him to live in by himself - about 15 litres is the minimum i would give one. Bigger ia always better though! You can get 12x12 inch cubes that are perfect :)
Males and females together is a huge no, they should only be in the same tank if you are breeding and even then under closely supervised conditions as they can do some serious damage to each other!
Females can do OK in a community but again i would be loath to put them in with nippers like you have in your tank. Also, you should have at least 4 females to spread agression, but be aware that they may all fight anyway! Bettas are not called 'fighter fish' for nothing!
Please ask more questions, we are all happy to help.
