ok, i have a 2 x 1.5 x 1 foot tank, i have had it running with no fish for around 4 weeks, ready for fish now. i want to breed guppys, any advice on what fish to look for when i buy them? what may be good for breeding. thank you.

any live bearers are easy to breed, guppys are the best to start with. when buying look over all the fish in the tank making sure none have white spot of fungus or bloat. keep 1 male to 3-4 female i like 5 females to 1 male.

dont keep any fin nipping fish with them.

Buy fish with traits you'd like to see in offspring. Unfortunately a lot of times, females will already be pregnant from stores.

thank you. i was thinking off getting 5 females and 3 males? is that to many males, i have seen the ones i want and i cant choose between the 3 so i was hoping all 3 may do the job? does it matter if say.... the male is blue? and teh female is red? do i have to try and match them up? thanks.

All guppies will breed but if u want to keep a true line then shop fish are no good as their all crossbreed females and true females for a male is very rare.

I got 3 types of line breed guppies and about 95% of the young are all the same colour.

If you want to just breed for fun then shop fish are good as you'll never know what your get from them.

as for numbers 8 fish will be fine bit 6 months from know you be over stocked!!!

thank you. i am goign to go to the lfs tomorrow and get 5 females and 3 males, i am goign to mix them for a suprise when the fry hatch, how long and i looking at before they get pregnant?

It's very often the case that their pregnant in the shops and you can buy fish and have fry with in a week.

But feed them well with quality flake foods and live foods once a week and their have fry befor long.
They will produce batches of fry once a month or so so enjoy.

thank you. i am not getting fish today there is still nitrite in my tank it has been ages, i have done a half water change and it has improved a little. i am hoping it should have gone down by tommorow. thanks for all your help
