Hi, some of my fish have got velvet. I immediately increased the temperature in the tank, checked the levels with my API test kit and they were all within normal levels.

I did a 50% water change and started treating with Protozin using the directions on the bottle.

We're now a week later and if anything the fish are looking worse. I am thinking of moving all the fish I have left - 3 harlequin rasbora's, 6 cardinal tetra's, 5 green neon tetra's, 5 rummy nose tetra's and 4 serpae tetra's from their current 90l home into a small 20l tank with the filter and heater so I can completely strip the big tank and scrub it. What do you think? is this going to stress them more?

Is there any other medication that you can recommend for treating velvet, I have used some pimafix too as a general aid but I have already about 9 fish in the last week.

The last additions to the tank were the rummynose tetra's back in march and they were quarantined for 2 weeks before being added.

Many thanks in advance for assistance.

Don't move the fish.

Have you raised temp to 30.
Have you increased aeration.
Have you used the full dose of the waterlife med.
Have you removed black carbon.

Velvet far worse than whitespot and harder to get rid of.

I've raised the temp to 30

Currently using 2 filters, a fluval 2+ and a smaller one from another tank as well as an air stone so the surface of the whole tank is constantly moving

I followed the instructions on the bottle completely and used the precise dose for my size tank

Don't have any carbon in my filters

Thanks Wilder, I know it's much harder and it's really hard to see my fish suffer like this.

I've been keeping the lights off as much as possible too because the velvet reproduces better with the lights on.

Does anyone else have any ideas.

All you can do is keep going with the med.
Maybe black the tank out.

If you change meds you would have to do a water change and run some black carbon.
There an interpet med for velvet.
Also there wormer plus.
