This all started when my Severum burnt itself just in front of its tail on the heater last week. The area became glazed and seemed to be ok, but then a single white pimple appeared. This seemed to die down yesterday, but now he has at least another 9 on different areas of his body. He did try and eat some cockle before, but is generally sat on the bottom and is not being himself. These spots are conical (protuding outwards) and are around 2-3mm diameter. I did try and photograph them to take to my LFS, but they do not show up well.

My water stats are Ammonina 0, Nitrite 0 and Nitrate 10. 300l tank with a 100l water change every Sunday.

Please help :-(

I have just been having another look and it seems like each of these spots has a small piece of thread (like cotton) extending from its centre. This is around 1-2 mm long. Anybody?

lfs reckon it is a secondary internal bacteria infection led on by the burn. i will do another 50 percent water change tonight (did one last night) and put melafix in. will also try and get pic.

That is what I initially thought. But looking at him this morning and some of the new lumps that are appearing, it looks as if they are being pushed from the inside (the conical shape of them). I will try and get pic later when I get home from work.

Having never had any kind of issue before, I sold the only other big tank I had last week. Just my luck.

Anyway, I have just done a 50% water change and added Melafix and an airstone. Here are some pictures (I apologise for the amount of blur, but with wanting to get the water change done I did not have time to sit there and wait for the fish to stop swimming):

Again, sorry for the blur but hopefully you can see the problem. The two white spots pictuted are the main ones and are directly on the area where the burn was. He has a few on his other side which are similar.

Just noticed that my Jewel is in nearly every picture as a speeding blur. What a show off she is.

Just got in and dosed the second dose of Melafix. The white lumps seem to be getting smaller so fingers crossed.

This morning there was just the one white lump remaining on the burn spot. I have just got home and there is now a 'crater' there. It does not look very deep but has a white rim and an obvious hole where the centre has vanished. Any ideas?
