Hello there, I have often come to this page and browsed when I was researching into getting my tank, and have posted a help message on the forum so sorry if you have already read this.

pH: 7.4
ammonia:0
nitrite:0
nitrate:10
kH:?
gH:?
tank temp: 26 degrees c

Fish Symptoms One cardinal has spots on its side and the other had died, it was fine last night and when I fed it this morning it looked like its back end had been shreaded (added these to my tank 2 days ago)

Volume and Frequency of water changes: regularly due to constant disease (every week since it finished cycling and when I had whitespot in it I changed it 3 times that week)

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: Just a small teaspoon of aquarium salt

Tank inhabitants: albino shark, plec, five guppies, 2 chocolate gouramies 4 cardinals and 2 neons.

from day 2, I have had disaster, I added my neons 3 weeks after cycling, my plec at five due to large amounts of algae and then five guppies, shortly after adding the guppies I lost two neons and over the course of the week I lost all ofgg my guppies (I was treating with a general tonic as there was no sign of illness. I then noticed small white spot so I treated for white spot and then got a secondary fungal infection which I treated for, I waited a fortnight until I added more fish, and started to stock up adding 5 guppies, my shark my gauramies and 5 cardinals. Unfortunately two of my new ones have fallen ill and one of them has already died. Please help, I don't know whether to treat the white spot or to treat the fact that I have a case of fin rot in my tank and I also didnt know fin rot can kill so quickly! I would appreciate any advice you can give.

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration):

The tail shredding could be from other fish chewing on his tail after he died. A white spot on his side? In most cases I have heard of Fin Rot occurs primarily on the fins not usually on the body. Sounds like you may have a case of ICH going on there. However I am no aquarium expert just though I would give my 2 cents.

Need to look at the size of your tank in gallons or litres.
So If I'm reading it right the fish has only one small spot on him.
So no other fish look like they have been sprinkled in salt.
Any flicking and rubbing going off in the tank.

Hello there, thank you for your replies, its a three foot tank 180 litres (which I think is a UK 40 gallon?), the fish looked shreaded before it died (poor thing), yes the other one has one little slightly raised white spot on its side, and there isn't any flicking or rubbing not even from him. Also I noticed that my gaurami had a cloudy eye late yesterday evening, lost a lot of colour and was looking very sorry for himself. I have melafix in my tank at the moment. I have checked my nitrites, ammonia and ph again but they are all fine. My gaurami looks a lot better today and is back to his energetic self although still has a cloudy eye. I am checking my fish obsessively and have been since I noticed my sick neon, none of the others have any spots or signs of rotting. I hope I have done the right thing!

I never realised how quickly fish diseases progress, is this normal, it seems really rapid! Also, can someone please advise as to why I am getting them so I can prevent it in the future? Or has it all just come from the fish store?

The whitespot on him then sounds bacterial see how he goes with the melafix for now.
If no improvement anti internal bacterial med by interpet.
Good luck.

Cloudy eye is not a desease in its own right its a symtom of one.
Stress.
Old age.
Poor diet.
Bad water quaity.
Irratation.
Parasites to bacterial.
With the white spot I would say bacterial.
