Help Please Emergency

:( I have kept tropical fish for over twenty years and have lost the odd one here and there i have had a sal plec for twenty years and has survived all till now.... last saturday i bought two blue guaramies and five neon tetras...... on monday morning all the neons had disapeared then other fish strted dying and when they died they were sank to the bottom not floating.. today my long lived pet catfish started acting wierd went out for an hour came back and its dead..... feeling sad and very confused as to what has happened no sign of illness with any fish before saturday?????? please help.... going to get water checked also take dead fish to shop for examination ..... rob
 
Im so sorry about your plec, i know how attached we get to some of our fish.

Its a sad lesson to learn but you should always quarantine new arrivals, but weve all made this mistake im sure.

I dont know what caused the deaths unless you saw anything apparently wrong with the fish prior to death.

Have you got your own test kits for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph?

pretty certain water quality ok only do one tenth change every two weeks always clean filter in old water never tap water..... have read about neon tetra disease is it possible that my cat fish eat the dead tetras and the spores infected my other fish just a long shot rob
 
Youc an never be 100% sure unless you test the water.
At the rate of water changes every two weeks then bacteria can get a good hold in your tank and take fish very quickly.
Maybe start doing 40% every week for a while and get your own test kits.
 
Did the tetra have any bleached out mark on the red stripe, or black lining around the red stripe.
Also lumps on the belly that go to a point.
