We bought 5 platys from a shop a while ago , 1 died almost straight away , bad treatment from the shop( we worried about the way he chased them with the net ! ) we also had to point out that the bag had a hole in it !

now we have lost the other 4 over the past 2 weeks .

They seem ok , then one will just stay on the bottom , and in the morning ..nothing ..

any help ?

the water is fine ..NOTHING has changed except the platy's have died..

all except One which was bought 6 months before from our preffered LFS .......

all other fish are fine etc ....

The water is 'fine'? Define 'fine' - what are your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels? If you have high ntirates, you may want to take a look at 'old tank syndrome' in my signature.

Also, test your pH and ask the LFS what theirs is - the fish may have also died from pH shock.

I hve had the fish for MONTHS ...

you have not answered my question

but you have helped me :)

You said one died straight away and the other 4 over the next two weeks so you can't have had them for months. Its likely it may have been ph

Sorry i meant 1 died after we got it home , the other four have died in the past 2 weeks , there was a gap of about 4 months between the first one dying and the last 4 passing away .

My ammonia is 0

nitrite is 0

nitrate is 40

ph is at 7.6

what seems strange , is that we bought these fish at the same time from a shop we don't normally buy fish from , another platy which we bought from out usual Shop and which is about 10 months old now , is fine .

Thanks for your help everyone , having read this thread , it seems that i was being sarcastic , esp my first reply , but honestly , i was not  ! I have kept fish for about 18 months , and any help is appreciated :good:

Any one :(

Did you notice if they had ick? You would see some white spots on their fins usually. What is the water temp at?

Could have been any number of things really. Most likely an internal bacteria which all were infected with. Sometimes the only symptom you will get is their odd deaths with no other outward signs of illness prior to it. I'd imagine stress would have killed the first as quickly as it did and there is also the possiblity of their ages. Unlikely although it is in this circumstance they may well have been older platies and nearer the end of their lifespan too. I have had two of my platies die of old age this year, both went very peacefully in their sleep and were found still in their sleeping spots from the previous night.
Other then this I am at a loss as to what the cause of their death might have been. Any household cleaners been used near the tanks?

28c is abit too high! Maybe the temp might of shocked them and stressed them out.

I am thinming that , except for the first one , they were old , they ALL just slowed down one night and were gione in the morning , all within 14 days ..strange :/

Thanks for the reply :)
