Hi, I was thinking of getting 2 male guppies and 4 female guppies for my 22g tank and hoping to breed them as it would be my first time. Would this be the right amount of males and females to do this or would i be better off to have just 1 male and 2 females?

I also have a pair of dwarf gourami's in my 22g tank and a small pleco, would the guppies be ok with these fish or would the gouramis chase the guppies around?

If i was able to breed the guppies i have 2 spare tanks which i could use for the fry to stop them being eaten. 1 of these tanks is a biOrb and the other is just a standard 50L tank. Both of these tanks have lights, heaters and filters.

Would both of these tanks be ok for the fry?

Thanks in advance :)

I cant speak for the gourami situation but 2 or 3 femlae guppies to each male will stop the females getting hounded crazy .... :S

ihad more problems with my dwarfs attacking each other, never had a problem with the guppies and dwarfs tho, only problem is te guppies got at it like crazy :S

Having 2 fry tanks sounds an excellent idea; that way you'll be able to separate the siblings by sex and stop unwanted pregnancies while they are growing out.

Ok then thanks for your help. The biOrb has a sponge filter so the fry wont get sucked in but the other tank has a normal box filter, so should i change it to a sponge filter or should it be ok?

Thanks

Just for abit more info on the filter in the standard tank, its a Magic-jet filter (Magi-380) with a spray bar.

Just wondering if it would be ok for the fry or would they get sucked in?

Thanks for your help

is the filter in the orb the one it comes with? if yes, ive had several people who have lost fry through them becoming tangled/ stuck/ sucked through the lava rock stuff at the bottom in the shop

Ok then thanks for letting me know that, yea it is the one it comes with but i have changed the chunky gravel it comes with to small gravel.

Im thinking of getting another small tank for the fry but im not sure wat size yet. any ideas wat type of size would be best?

Thanks

Hi,
i have a 25ltr fry tank that i hold about 23 fry from one mother :hyper: , so i suppose you need to think about how many you would like to save, my advice is to get the biggest tank you have room for.
all the best with the fry Donna :good: .
ps i lost neons with the biorb through the sponge filter, i know you have changed the gravel, fry are tiny when first born, just something to be aware off. :)

Is it essential to have lights in a fry tank? If so how many hours each day should they be on?

Thanks

hi,
the only reason for lights would be if you had live plants, in my fry tank i dont have any so i dont always put the light on, if you want it on dont leave it on longer than 12hrs or you will see an algae build up. :)
