Hi Fish Fans

Can someone shed some light on what may be wrong?

Firstly I have some odd behaviour by a glow light tetra, I have 6 but one is hovering vertically and looks like he's jumping up and down, this is been going on for 2 days now he moves when another fish goes past but returns to this after, he just looks distressed, any ideas?

Secondly I have 7 pygmy corys who up until two weeks ago swam all over the tank which is planted, but since I added some more plants they have hidden at the back and not even sure all are there, at first I thought they were just getting use to the different things but is it there is now too many plants, there is room to move and the tetras seem ok with it.

The tank is a Juwel 60 (2’x1’x1’) have done all usual tests and everything is fine

Pygmy cories are quite a timid little species and do spend a lot of their time in little huddles hidden away. Mine certainly do but this probably more to do with the 4" Boesemani rainbows scaring them! You have enough of them in you school so they should feel reasonably confident. They do naturally head for areas of shade, under things and away from the front of the tank interspersed with lively flitting up to the surface and back. They sound like they are behaving perfectly normally and as long as your water stats are good I would have no worries about them.

Your glowlight is another matter. What is you current stock in the tank as he is behaving a little oddly. Could there have been an ammonia or nitrite spike that you have missed? His behaviour kind of suggest a recent change in water chemistry that he is not happy with.

What's the current pH?
What temperature is the tank at?

Also what and how much are you feeding as he may be experiencing digestive discomfort. All I can suggest for now is you get back to us with some answers and to keep an eye on you ammonia, nitrite and pH levels particularly. If you are using a paper strip test for those levels they are not always as accurate as a liquid test, so you levels may not be what you think.
