I have a fluval 304 and i got it second hand and its making a really annoying noise its like a sort if wiring rattle sound is this normal or is there something wrong with it, and is it fixable.
If it is normal then i guess i will just have to live with it lol.

what does air-locked mean its not blowing out a lot of air and its running quite well. it also grumbles really badly if i tilt it.
should i turn it off?

Is it possible to sell it back to the previous owner? Something is deffinately wrong. It could either be the impeller kocking on something, trapped air, busted o-ring, or a broken impeller chanber clasp. Got pictures of the inside?

I will try and get some pics 4 tomorow and i know the guys at the shop i bought it from quite well they prob wont take it back but maby they can fix it or somthing.

How long have you let it run continiously for? I've never had any experience with that filter but I use an eheim 2213 on my planted tank. If I've just cleaned or been messing around with it I find it makes a rattling noise for a day or two while the last of the air expels, then it runs virtually silently for months till I take it apart again.

Yep as above.

I have used Fluval filters for a long time and they all are pretty much the same (take a couple of days to settle down and get the air out). Did you prime the filter properly before turning it on?

What you might want to do is turn the filter of. Rock it back and forth gently for a minute to get all the air to the top then pump the priming handle a few times. You will probably see lots of little bubbles coming out of the outflow. Keep pumping (do it gently or it doesnt work very well) until you dont see bubbles anymore. They rock it a little more and do it again.

If if it is REALLY loud (constantly) and the above doesnt help then it is most probably a problem with a seal.

Fluval filters in my experience will always at least give a costant low humming noise and they do seem to be able to trap lots of air pockets which can random rattle through even after it has been going fine for a few weeks.

yes your all right it was an air lock i turned it off over night as it is in my room and took it to pieces in the morning to find nothing wrong (pulled the pipes out and soaked my floor ). I started it again it was a bit noisy but no way near as much i pumped it a few more times and now its fine so thanks for the help. now i just have to get my skimmer working (never ends).

lol yesterday when I was rinsing the filter on my planted tank I knocked off one the the clips that connects the hoses to the filter. Clipped it back on but didnt realise that I had clipped it on the wrong way round. Took me an hour and much, much swearing to figure out that I had put the clip back on wrong and when I thought I was opening the valves I was actually closing them :) No wonder I couldnt get a syphon going on it.... :)
