Right do a water change, don't feed the fish, buy a battery operated airstone, plus cover the tank with a blanket.

I had to use a battery operated airstone recently for the first time. Aren't they noisy?! I had two fleeces on the tank to keep the heat in and I wrapped the motor part of the airstone in an old t-shirt. It still sounded like a road drill. I read a link on a similar question and if you have a large tank you are supposed to have two battery operated airstones. The noise would be incredible. Are they all noisy? The fish didn't like it. Mine is laughingly called the "Silent" one. I know you have to have them but I would be interested to know if there actually is a quiet one available. :) On the plus side mine takes 2 D batteries and they were still going after 6 hours.

I must have bought a duff brand! It really is noisy. I am not sensitive to noise but it was really getting on my nerves! More importantly the fish didn't like it. Can I ask what brand yours is? :)
