Can anyone help me? I am a little new at this. I moved my fish to a 30 ga from a established 10 ga. I used the same gravel and added some brand new. The 10 ga gravel didn't fill the 30 ga. I saved the water and added new water. I had to move the fish to the new tank within the next day. Over night the heater broke and the temp dropped and a few fish got ick. I raised the temp and added quick cure and the ick went away. I did a 25%water change. I added bio-spira and special blend. Now the ammonia and nitrates went up. The ph keeps fluxuating. I added perfect PH and stress coat. I know I have the new tank syndrome. I have lost 2 mollies and about to lose a sword tail. I still have 2 sword tails, 2 mollies, 4 neons, algae eater, and 2 other tetras. I don't know what else to do. HELP me please. Any suggestions. THANKS

Don't bother with with ph chems as the tank will be all over the place as it started cycling again, so ph will be unsable, i would do a water change and not add any more ph stabiliser to the tank, as if ammonia readings are high it will alter your ph.

how often should I do a water change.? I am afraid to do another one for fear I will make it worse. THe ammonia level is between .25 and .50. I have been using spring or distilled water. My tap water is pretty crummy.

I think you've got two issues here...
One is the new tank - What happened to thr filter from the old tank?
Two - thats a lot of fish to have had in a 10g and if you've been buying bottled water you won't have been doing a lot of waterchanging. The fish will be shocked by new water,

As you got biospira you should have sorted the cycling problem - ask your fish store if they do RO water and can pre buffer it for you. This should be cheaper than the stuff you are using & more stable. Spring & distilled water are totally different things -what is wrong with your tap water?
What filter are you using?

I have a new aqua clear and my whisper from the 10 gallon tank. I inherited the mollies and tetras from a friend who moved. So they are new fish. I never had a problems before. My tap water is very soft and does not taste to good

Well I think one thing is for sure, you rushed it all too fast. Whyd you move them all so quickly?

I am remodeling the room the fish tank was in and I couldn't set the new tank up earlier due to sleeping arrangements.

Yes I had another one. It broke in the middle of the night. So I didn't know till the next morning

The distilled water would cause pH swings. I think spring or mineral water should be ok...check the pH, to see that it's in line with your tank (brands may vary). Might ask lfs their thoughts on the local water.

According to the site, it's normal to have small ammonia, nitrate readings first few days (see note to the right).

I usually use spring water or go to my parents to get water. They have much better water than I do. I will fill up jugs and bring them back. THe fish are doing much better today. The ammonia levels have gone down and the ph has settled . When I did a test you know the five test strip. well the total alkinity /buffering capacity was high 300. and ph was around 7.0 to 7.2 hard to read exactly ph. any suggestions about the buffering?

The high buffering in itself shouldn't be a problem, I don't think...just means your pH will be more resistant to change. I'm a little surprised that neutral pH would have such high buffering, but that's not to say it can't happen...keep an eye out that the pH is not rising. As before, test the tank and any new water to see that there are no major differences. Glad the fish are ok.
