i started off with 8 neons and have had them all for about 4 months now, they have been completely fine, all swim around happily together, eating lots.. recently i noticed that 2 of them developed a kind of white area at the end of their bodies by the tail.. within the last week 1 of neons 'white area' became quite sore looking and my mollies were harassing it, the tail seemed to get smaller and smaller as if it was disappearing.. and when i got home today the fish was dead :-( :-( the other one seems to be going that way too.. the other 6 are 100% fit and healthy!

as soon as i noticed it i ut some treatment in the water (as indicated) but it didnt seem to help! :(

what is going on? and what should i do?

Is the white area Cotten like or spotty? A little more detail would help diagnose it. Sounds like a fungus to me as of now.

not spotty, my first thought was white spot but ive had that in the tank before and treated it very easily..

yeh it looks kind of cotten like and slightly swollen where the whiteness is.. also the fish thats just died and the other ill one havent been eating? it kind of stays at the back of the group of them, never in the middle or the 'leader' :(
