this might sound daft but my tank has been taken over by a VERY large family of daphnia its making my water cloudy due to the dead ones the eggs and the skin my discus are showing no intrest in eating them at all my water is looking worse everyday and alot of rubbish flooting around the water and water surface i dont want to start a fresh cycle on my tank its not a option as all my water is spot on and dont want to lose that. all i want to know is there a fish or bottom feeder i can put in with the discus thats going to be happy in hard water and ph 7.5 and temp of 86 and of course will feast on the little buggers without doing them any harm as iv read that daphnia can carry parasites which could kill fish if eaten in large amounts i was looking at bumble gobys as there main diet is live food but im worried they will get eaten by the discus or wont be able to live in the high temp any advice or ideas needed asap as im getting new discus soon from a breeder so if iv problems with water i want to get it sorted before they turn up please please please help sooooon

Daphnia are filter feeders so I would be concerned about the cause of their population explosion more than the daphnia themselves. Usually they eat uni-cellular algae, or small bits of floating detritus...
Have you had any green water problems in the past?
Is your tank bare-bottom (and if not describe what's in there)?
What are your exact water parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, etc)?
What is your water change schedule and maint routine?

I think the parasite problem with Daphnia would be leaning more towards frozen daphnia from un-known sources...ones that have bred in your tank should be relatively parasite free as long as the originals didn't have a parasite problem that could spread to the new ones.

Doing a large water change to help remove some of the floating junk in the water won't hurt either.

my ammonia, nitrites, nitrates are all 0 rather that or a fault with the tests the ph is 7.5 (which is the same as my tapwater) the bottom is sand i carry out a 20%every week water change and every month a 40/45% change never had any problems with green water or with my water at all for that matter and iv just a nice growth of green algae on a few rocks and no brown or hair algae but the green is not alot and looks ok adds a life look to the rocks my filter gets looked at every 4 weeks for blockages and if ness then removed and part cleaned if needed i always keep back alot of my media un washed for the bacteria but the filter is a large one compared to the one needed for the tank. i dont no how iv got the little buggers in the tank as i dont feed my fish live Daphnia i use all frozen or freeze dried so its a mistery i have added some small gobys to the tank which have had a good feast on them as soon as they got put into it and the discus dont seem to be bothered by them or just not yet iv also added some corys which the discus are pestering but as the corys are to fast it dont seem to be a problem and the gobys seem to be happy to be in the tank with a good stock of live food am just worried that the water is going to get even more cloudy and harm all the fish iv a tank i can move the smaller of the fish into if needed but nothing thats going to house the discus yet.
how much a water change would you recomend? and that wouldnt stress the fish out to much
