Hi all,
I am new to this so please forgive any mistakes. I am very confused about how many fish we can keep in our 90l tank (think that is about 23.77 gal). It is my sons tank an Aquastyle 620, sixe 62 x 38 x 53cm. He currently has 5 Black Wido Tetra, 7 Black Neon Tetra and 7 X-Ray (Pristella) Tetra. Tank is about 18 months old, well established with no problems, fish are all well. When we got the tank he wanted to keep Angel fish and Neon Tetra but was advised against this in a new tank, now I am told the tank is too small for an Anglefish. I need to rekindel his interest all suggestions welcome.

The normal rule is an inch of fish per gallon. I think all or those fish you have are around 2 inches so you have.... 38 inches of fish. If you are overfiltered you are ok, but if not you may need to get rid of a certain type of tetra. If you get rid of a species I would advise getting some bottom feeders instead (either corys or a bristlenose plec, i would suggest!)

if you do decide to reduce your stock and get different fish instead, try corys, they are great fun, very cute and very popular.....may help fire your son's imagination.

Thanks for info, the tank is overfiltered. The water is good and the fish well. My son would like to try keep more unusal fish so we may have to find a good home for his tetras. So the number of fish is about right for the size of tank?

So the number of fish is about right for the size of tank?

It is currently "overstocked" if you want to go by safety standards.

However, if the filtration is excellent, water changes are done often, water params are kept in safe levels, etc etc etc ...you can OS and have a successful tank. Be really cautious about what kind of fish you put in there though...some are territorial, and in a smaller tank like that one it could spell out some serious problems.

Thanks that is really helpful. If we decided to keep fish could we put a few gouramies in?

Gouramis would be okay if you stick with smaller species like dwarf, honey, or sparkling. Avoid multiple males however since they have a tendency to fight each other. The suggested ratio of gouramis is 1 male / 2 females (so one female doesn't get overly harrassed), but females can be hard to find in some stores since they aren't as pretty as the males.
