Hi,
I'm Mick. I live in Yorkshire Uk. Pleased to meet you all. Just need a bit of advice really.
I'm new to tropical fish-keeping. In fact I don't have any fish yet and this is where your advice is needed.
I have a 125l tank and have started to cycle two weeks ago. I started by filling the tank with gravel, ornaments and plants. Have just done a 20% water change today and want to add fish in about two weeks, will this be OK?
The fish I want to start with are Zebra Danios (5) followed by Guppies (5), Dwarf Gouramis (2), Rams (2), Pentazona Barbs (5), Neon Tetra (5), Red Finned Shark (I think this is what they are called) (1) and Siamese Fighter Fish (1).
What I would like your advice on is:-
Will my tank be ready to take the fish in two weeks?
Do you see any problems with the fish I am wanting to add?
Am I overfilling my tank?
How do I add the fish i.e. how long should I leave in between introducing a new species to introducing the next?
Any other advice you can give for the complete novice.
Mick.

hi,
welcome to tff,
you will get all the help you need on here,
so you have your tank up and running, ok to cycle a tank you need ammonia,
you can buy it at diy stores, please read this topic in the beginer section, also a test kit, master test kit is the best around.
good luck, Donna :good:

Hi Donna,
Thanks for your reply.
I have got a test kit and ammonia and all levels seem OK as of Friday night. The kids (8 and 11) are loving doing the testing, I think they are learning from it.

Hi Mick and welcome to the forum.
Your stocking sounds ok but I wouldn't put the fighting fish in. They will attack anything colourful or with long flowing fins. Zebra Danios tend to be fin nippers too and will end up damaging your fighter. The Gouramis will also be a problem with your fighter.
If you want to keep a fighter then I would buy a little 5 Gallon tank and keep him on his own. They are solitary fish and don't need the company of others. Sadly, they don't make very good community fish but like I said they are happy enough on their own.
Not sure about the shark but hopefully someone else can help you out with that. :)

Thanks for the advice. This is what I'm needing as right now I'm a complete novice to fish-keeping and will take any advice anyone can give on board. I've got to say though, my 8 year old daughter will not be happy, she's the one who wants the fighter fish!!!

If you can find a cheap little set up the you could keep one on it's own. I know Aquaone do a small tank with filter and heater include for about £45.
