thanx

Plus betta and gouramis won't get along.

4ft tank sounds like a good size to work with but you still need to find out the gallons. A thread on exactly the same topic as this was done yesterday, if you check out the link it may give you some ideas on which livebearers you prefer;

Gouramis are quite a specialised species, checking out the pinned articles in the Gourami/Anabantoids section will give you alot of insight into which are the peaceful species and which are the agressive/semi agressive one and what size tanks they require.
Most people will have some bottom dwelling fish, like a group of corys or a type of plec, a shoaling species like tetras, barbs or danios and a centre peice or mid to top dwelling species. What sort/types of fish are you into other than livebearers :) ? Bettas are ok, but male ones don't make good community fish and females require to be in large groups of at least 5-6 to spread out the agression between them.

the tank is 200 litres and do you have to put salt in if you keep mollies?

Not nesarsarily- it depends on wether the lfs's(local fish store's) mollys are brackish(semi marine/salt water) bred or freshwater bred- if they are brackish mollys they most likely won't thrive to well in a completely salt-free tank, while if they are freshwater bred ones it shouldn't be a problem as long as you give them a varied diet(veg, high protein foods) and maybe some liquid multi vitamini/mineral supliment from time to time; i have a freshwater bred female molly since she was a fry and she has been in perfect health now for 2 and a half years, brackish mollys on the other hand i have bought have usually had a series of health problems.

Before you decide to go completely freshwater, check out the brackish section of the forum as well as brackish enviroments have a whole load of unique and easy to care for fish if you are willing to go that extra step towards supporting a brackish tank :thumbs: .
