Help Needed With New Tank

Hi I've got a brand new Aqua One corner tank its 180 litres, we have just set it up, but not sure if we have the filter working correctly, its a Aqua One CF1000 canister filter. the base of the tank is sand it was OK yesterday but when we have got home from work today a lot of the fish were dead and the tank is just a cloud of sand, can anyone advice me of what we are doing wrong.

Not sure about the filter. Havnt got a canister filter myself. There are a few questions that will need answering before anyone here can offer advice.

1. Was the tank cycled before you added the fish?
2. Do you know any of your water stats, ammonmia, nitrite, nitrate, pH?
3. How many of each species of fish have died?
