Hi I recently bought a pair of dwarf gouramis and am wondering a couple of things about them. First of all, my female gourami has got one shorter 'feeler' than the other and I am worried that it might be broken. Will this affect her in any way and will it grow back? Also, my LFS only sells gouramis in pairs and my male gourami chases the female which then causes her to hide away. Would another female help? Or are there any other way to help this problem if I cant buy a gourami singely. Also, my males colour seems light and faded and the female very bright???? -_- would appreciate any help please

Male should reach its colour maximum in a day or so. My daughter had a pair too, and like yours, he chased way too much. After moving them to my tank with more gourami, they calmed down. Maybe add another pair?

The feeler may be broken. Not to worry, she will be ok. Depending on her age as to whether it will grow anymore. It will always be shorter than the other. They will definitely be happier and more docile with 1-male for every 2-3 females if you have the room. Adding another pair may help. Again, only if there is enough room. The males will jockey for territory and will not bother the females as much.

Do they have to be male/female pairs? Maybe you can talk them into selling you two females. Males are more popular, after all. Or maybe if you pay for a "pair" and just take the female. There's got to be some way they will let you get a female without having to take another male too... that's just silly. Even Petsmart has let me buy a "guppy pair" and take two females.

Nah, LFS will only sell as true pairs, male and a female  Well, we dont anyway as the order coems in with like 20 males and 20 females

its strange why they do this i know but i think its inly lfs that does
as pets at home sell them single either male or female

i ended up splitting the male and female up and put the male in the community aquarium and left female in small aquarium.
they are now getting on ten times better

the females feeler is growing back well and she dosent hide anymore and has started eating
she wouldnt eat for about a week and a half
2-3 days after male left she is eating and now she eats really well and male has settled in well in community aquarium
so overall good result! :good:
