Hello,
I am hoping for some help diagnosing an internal parasite.
One of my serpae tetras has been very inactive for a couple of weeks. She has become bloated too (scales flat not raised, so i do not think it is dropsy). I thought she might be pregnant but yesterday I noticed a thin white strand coming from her anus (the width of a human hair). This morning she was swimming strangely around the tank,(not on one side, but seemed to be having difficulty). I took her to the local pet store. They said it was a parasite and there was no way to save her. I couldn't get many more details as I am in Thailand and my Thai vocabulary does not extend to exact names for fish parasites!
Could anyone please diagnose this parasite and give suggestions of what to do?
I have a 40 gallon tank, do a 25 percent water change each week (vaccuming the gravel), my water parameters are fine.
I have four serpae, five australian rainbowfish, 8 rasboras (small juveniles - similar to harlequins, but smaller and they look like they have a red Nike stripe) and a butterfly loach.
Many thanks for your help!
