Hello to you all,
I am new here and new to tropical fish too. I bought a complete set up with fish yesterday and the move seems to have gone ok. I bought a tank that was already established and took it all including the water so I did not upset or kill the fish. The tank is 62cm x 60cm x 48cm. I would like some advice to how many fish I am allowed. I would like to add to the tank as there are only 4 tiny fish in it, I do not know the names and I know from reading online some fish do not mix well.
Please can someone help me identify my fish? And let me know what not to get, I do not want any deaths or bullying.
I am trying to set this up for my son, he adores watching them (he is 3).
And lastly how long should I wait before I add my new fish, I only got the tank yesterday, they have been moved but the whole set up remains the same an all seem very well and lively.
Thank you very much in advance
Sally

Hi Sally and welcome to the forum

The fish in the top and bottom pics show a Platy
The middle pic shows a colour form of the Honey Dwarf Gourami

Those two types of fish are pretty peaceful and usually do well in tanks.
I would wait a month before you add any new fish. This will allow the filter time to settle down after the move. During this time you should only feed the fish once a day and remove any uneaten food after a couple of minutes.

You also want to do a partial (about 30%) water change each week. You should dechlorinate the new water before it goes into the tank. Make sure you use a clean bucket for the fish and don't use the fish bucket for anything but the fish. Get a felt pen (permanent marker) and write "Fish Only" on the bucket.

You should go to a fish shop and look at what is available. Also have a look in the local library and find some fish you like. Then write the names down and bring the list back here. We can advise you on the fish you like and say whether or not they are compatible with what you have.
