Ive just ordered some gravel last week. I got it yesterday tipped alot of it into my bath and started scrubbing. I didn't realise the blue gravel had so much dye on it. My bath was filled with blue water, and took me ages to get the water running clear. I'm filling the tank up tonight, to start the cycle off. But my main worry is the dye. Will the filter sort the dye out by the time the fish are ready to be added(gradually of course) - thats if it does have some more dye to come off? :shout:
Any help is appreciated :good:

Sometimes the filter does pick up the dye, however certain types there is always dye coming off and you can never get it to stop running. This may also cause problems in your tank with your water staying clean. I would suggest possibly trying to find different gravel.

Good Luck!

I don't think it would be a problem, only because it's aquarium-grade gravel. It is, isn't it? Does the package say for freshwater aquariums? Because that means it's okay to put in with fish. Unless it's some foreign knock-off brand... :\

If your filter is good, it should remove any dye that comes out into the water.

It said it was suitable for tropical fish/coldwater fish. I got it from a LFS.

Yeah, I think you'll be okay putting it in an uncycled tank. It'll have time to clear out the dye if some of it gets into the water before you add fish. If it says it's okay to put in a tank, it should be. If not, people would sue them for false advertising. >_< I know some people who have had problems with sand dyeing their water funny colors and having adverse effects on their tanks, but it was playground/sandbox sand.

I wouldn't worry about it, if you do see some dye in the tank, add some carbon to your filter, that should clear it up. :good: It's normal for some dye to come off at first.
