Hi

I am new to this forum but i already had good advise on brackish fish.

I already posted this on the chichlid forum but nobody came up with anything.

Could somebody give me advise on a Malawi Crab ???

The Story is : Hubby and me have a 100 gallon tank what was sitting in the garage for the last seven years as when we moved house the living room was not big enough. Before we moved we always had malawi chiclids. Now we had an extension build we set up the tank again with malawi chiclids. As always I am intrigued by new things and when I saw a malawi crab I thought thats different and I bought it. When I handed over my money another customer said to me ohhh nooo I had one of them and it eat my fish. So when I bought it home I was to scared to put it into my tank, so for the time being I put him into a tank i have set up for babys.
(But empty at the time )The next day (I didnt have the heart to bring him back to the shop) I bought his own little tank only 2ft. put in coral sand and ocean rocks made him a nice cave. he does seem happy in there but I find it a bit boring with no fish in there. The problem is that I can't have small fish as he might eat them and for bigger fish the tank is probably to small.

Any advise how I can brighten up the tank with some tank mates for my crab.

Thanks

Sabine

More crabs? :S

My son has a crab in his tank - don't know if it's a malawi crab however. It is dead peaceful and doesn't fin nip in fact we rarely see it to be honest.

My feeling would be to "suck it and see" - put it in the tank and if it is aggressive then have a rethink.

My son's crab did (at first) have a couple of goes at the fish but nothing serious, and he spends so much time hiding that he is hardly a threat. He now seems perfectly happy and we have not seen in 6 months ANY evidence of nipped fins. All he is interested in is the food!!!!

Difficult one I know, but my lfs (which i trust) insists that they are not a threat ot the fish- they only get aggressive at first until theyhave established their territory and then they calm down - bit like men I think.

:hyper: Sorry guys!!

Hi

Thanks for that.

Your right he is in his cave most of the time and he is greedy for food. Its only that I heard a few people

say negative things regarding grabs. My only worry is at night when some fish sit at the bottom.

Thanks

Sabby
