I've been going through a fishless cycle for over a week now and I've just noticed one of these in the tank.

What is it? Should I leave it there?

is a snail

will have come in on your plants, can leave it or can get rid of it, up to you. it won't harm your fish, it may nibble plants, problem with snails is while 1/2 may be cute you can v quickly get overrun with them which is then a nightmare to sort!

personally i would get rid of it (he should survive in a pond if you have one nearby you can be humane and take him there) rather than risk being overrun later

Are you sure it's a bug... does it have legs??

It looks a bit like a snail in the pic.

Do you have any live plants in your tank??? I ask because I noticed a little snail in my tank a few days ago who must have hitchhiked in on some plants that I bought from my lfs

ROFL ,
at first i was like EWWWW!
then i realised it's a snail.

Yep, I meant to suggest it was a snail instead of a bug but remember I'm a numpty newbie.

It doesn't have any legs and there's a sort of translucent shell around its back.

I think I'll get rid of it and monitor the tank for any more in future.

If I wanted a snail (and I might as an algae eater) I'd buy a good looking lump of one that my baby can see.

I bought the live plants from a LFS so that's where it must've come from.

It's quite a fast mover for its size and I have noticed some of my greenery being munched.

Oh well, time to consign it to the natural water world of London!

Many Thanks
