Ok, when I get my 75 US ga tank, I'm going to have...

Percula clown (Nemo)
Firefish (Smokie)
Pacific Blue Tang (Dori)
Yellow Tang (Bubbles)
Yellowtailed Blue Damsel (?)

I need names for my Damsel, heres a little description.

He's smaller than the other fish.
He's allways picking on the FF (Smokie)
He's DEFINETLY not afraid of me (allmost bit me once)
Looks evil when you look him in the eye.

I was kinda thinking of Satan....lol Just kidding. I'll take some of the good names and ask my family if they like it.

youll only have room for one tang in there if your set on having a tang (i wouldnt recomend one for a 75), but for the damsel how bout SOB :D

ROFLMAO!!! lol

I'm going to put in the tangs at the same time, and watch them closely.
If I see them start to fight, I'm going to take out the yellow tang since I wanted the Blue one since I started.

oh, and since I kinda hate the Damsel, I just MIGHT take it to the LFS when I switch tanks. I'm sick of having that little SOB. lol

its not the aggression, just go with the blue, ur tank would be too small for the yellow anyway

Your probebly right...the blues at the store are small, but they do get big...the yellows are maybe like half the size they get when their at the store. I'll stick with the blue, get rid of the SOB, and get a purple FF, hopfully they wont fight...they shouldn't because FF are the most passive fish I know of...

Smokies been getting mean to SOB though lol.

Call it nelson muntz or Chucky (as in killer doll not the rugrats kid)

I like SOB though

lol...I'll probebly get rid of SOB to make room for a male perc, a blue tang, and a tomato clown to be added.

ohh i said that backwords about the tangs, the blue tangs get 1 foot long, the yellows are smaller usually only 6inches

haha yeh :p ive seen some big blue tangs!!! a yellow tang is usually the one that can fit into smaller tank sizes :)

I know that, Everybook or article I read, it sais a minimum of 75ga with smaller tankmates, the other tank mates are smaller. I might get the 90ga rather than the 75ga too. Trust me, I know how big the blue will get, but my mom wants a "Dori", I want any tang, and I might get rid of some fish. *cough* SOB Damsel *cough*

BTW, I've been planning this tank for pretty much a year.

Ctenochaetus are one genus that can easily be kept in tanks as small as 75 gallons. As long as the fish in question does not grow larger than about 7-8'' it should do well.

Rumours about tangs needing more space than other similarly sized fish are false; in reality, large angels probably need the most space of any (commonly kept) aquarium fish. Tangs are comperable to triggers as far as space needs go.

they are not rumors that they need more swimming room than most other fish there size or they will get stressed, im more concerned with the bioload of a possibly 1 foot fish

I agree; though they will not reach 12'' in aquaria, I would recommend the original poster choose a smaller species. What about a Caribbean Blue Tang, Acanthurus coeruleus?

Still, there is really no evidence that tangs need more space than other fish their size. Which is why I called it a rumour.

I'm agreeing with Lynden, here. Before the Berlin method 'n stuff, people used to put a LOT more fish in tanks than they do now, and there were less powerful skimmers and other filtration. Tangs were among them, and they did perfectly fine in slightly smaller tanks. Obviously any fish would love to have more room to swim. But they don't NEED it. Besides, if the fish got soooooo stressed by being in a tank 10g smaller, they would die. Yellow tangs are in 55g tanks all over the world, and they aren't dieing. Also, the only difference between standard 75g's and standard 90g's are 4 inches in HEIGHT. 48"x18"x20" vs. 48"x18"x24".

there is no set rule for saltwater fish and how many you can have in your tank it all depends on how the fish are reacting in the tank at the time
