I got 2 fresh water puffer fish yesterday and they both seemed fine then today i was looking and i though one was dead.when i got the net out n tried to scoop it up it was still aliuve vaguely.its still alive now is there anything i can do to save it??ANYTHING?

What type of puffer are they?!!?
What are your water stats - pH, nitrite, nitrate, amonia, temp?
How big is the tank?
What other fish have you got in there?
Can you isolate him at all?

puffers can be VERY agressive and it is highly likely one attacked the other.
what type of puffer
what size tank
was it nipped or have tears in its fins?
what is your water parms like

most likely its becuase the puffer you have (dwarf puffer i am guessing only freshwater puffer) is not able to be in your tank, the tank you have must be completely cycled and have perfect settings, a slight setting can lead to harm and death to a dwarf puffer, plus these things are aggressive so you must only have a tank just for puffers, and they require 5 gallons each .... you must also only feed them live food, (blood worms and snails is the best diet, they must have snails in their diet)

those are the most likely reasons your puffer died, mine also did the same thing, i had to put him out of his misery, either it was a parasite, or the tank ratings were off a bit....

so make sure
-you dont feed him flake foods, or pellets (it is extremely rare they will eat these)
-keep them in their own tank
-5 gallons per puffer
-tank cycled completely
-and no other fish!

hope this helps and im sorry to hear your loss

Just an off-topic point of order, Dwarf Puffers are in no way the only freshwater puffers.
In fact one of the biggest puffer species on the planet is freshwater (tetraodon mbu) as are all the puffers in my signature except for the figure eights.

In addition to this there are several brackish water and even marine puffers that fish stores often (incorrectly, obviously) sell as freshwater the most common being the Green spotted puffer (Tetraodon nigroviridis), the Figure Eight Puffer (Tetraodon biocellatus) and the Green Puffer (Tetraodon fluviatilis).

So you see, there's no way we can be sure what Jenny's 'freshwater puffer' is... it might not even be a freshwater puffer at all!

yes that is true, i knew i forgot something!!

and duh i should have known that it isnt the only freshwater, but its the most comenly sold..... not counting the mistaken ones....

do you have a link to a place i can buy freshwater puffers?? i would love to get more puffer tanks set up....

thanks minion for the correction i knew it was wrong, my bad!
