i purchased some fish the other day (tropical) and now one of my molly's have got pop eye - i started a treatment of white spot the other day - so am i able to also add the treatment for pop eye and do you guys think the other new fish brought the pop eye home from the fish shop?

Hi chaz333444

What are your water atats? Ph,Amonia, Nitrite and Nitrate?

What size tank?
Number of fish?
What species are they?

Pop eye is a bacterial infection usually associated with ich or dropsy , bad water conditions or a bump to the eye..

Is the fish eating?

What medication did you use for the ich?

Regards

scott

thank you so much for the reply.......well im not an expert with fish.....so the tank is huge think its 350 liters i have got a few ballon mollys, guppies, plec's a catfish - i would say i have about 40 fish.....what is ich . . . .can i treat the fish now ? with the pop eye treatment? does this help you ?

Hi chaz333444

No probs glad to help :)

Ich is whitespot its proper name is Ichthyosporidium hence the Ich name.

How long has the tank been running?

Do you do water changes?

Do you not have a test kit to test the parameters of the tank? Ph , Nitrate, Nitrites, Amonia ?
Would be great if you could post them as we can determine alot from the stats.

What is the name of the medication you have used for the white spot (ich)?

What temp is the tank at?

scott

we have had the tank for 7 years.....but have a new tank coming in 2 week.....The same size ect.

I am at work at the moment so i cant give you the name of the treatment i used it came from pets at home interpet maybe?

No we dont change the water we do just top it up sometimes......i have got a test kit at home should i test and then let you know?

also when i treated them the other day i didnt take any of the filters out, but the white spot seems to have gone....

|The molly's eye looks like its going to pop.....i have tried looking at the other fish but it doesnt look like they have got it.....but her other eye looks like it might be getting it.

Thanks soooo much for your help and i am sorry im not very good with giving you much info!!! but will get more info tonight!!!

Hi chaz333444

Don't worry about the info your doing great.

Sounds like the med is interpet no6 white spot.

White spot has a life cycle of around 1 month.

Do you have another small tank? you could remove the fish with the popeye and then use interpet no9 - anti internal bacteria.

If not you need do a water change say 25-30%, then run some carbon in your filter to remove the whitespot med do that for around 12 hrs make sure u add water dechlorinator as normal tap water has chlorine and chloramine which is harmful to fish then treat with anti bacterial med.

It does seem like your tanks parameters are not looking to good.

Im not sure if there is a med u can use with interpet no6 that would cure the popeye, someone with more knowledge of meds will be able to answer that one, wilder is good and she will be on soon so lets see what she has to say aswell.

Also water changes should be done once a week at around 25%.

Whoops just reread back my post...and ich is ICHTHYOPHTHIRIUS not Ichthyosporidium.
Ichthyosporidium is popeye. my bad.

Just thought i better correct that.
