I woke up this morning to discover that one of my columbian tetra's tails has completely disappeared! :sad:

I don't think it is fin rot as it was fine last night, no signs of disease at all. I think it has been bullied but I'm not sure which of the fish have done it.

I'm at a loss as to what to do. I don't have another tank to put it in to recover, however, I feel awful leaving it in there to be eaten alive!!

I've been watching it for the last few hours and none of the other fish are going near it.

Can some advise me what to do...do I just leave it in there or do I put it out of it's misery?

Help..... :shout:

That's a good idea, never thought of that.

No, all of the others are fine.
I wouldn't care, I have 5 Columbian Tetra and they are the biggest fish that I have in the tank!

i find it strange that its tail just went missing like that now that you say that they are the biggest fish in the tank - but then again im not very experienced with fish keeping. Is there any way its tail was caught on something?

Lets get down to the bottom of this;

What other fish do you have in the tank, how many fish all together and what size is the tank?

For now, I would keep him in a breeding trap and keep the water clean x

Apparently, Columbiam Tera shouldn't be kept in a community!!! So I found out yesterday!

Since first posting this, I've lost 3 more fish! I took one of them to the lfs, who examined and confirmed that it is not fin rot.

I plan to take the Columbian's to my lfs, however catching them is proving difficult!!

I'm about to do a 20% water change just in case the dead fish in the tank have polluted the water.

Fingers crossed!! :-(

never heard that before i keep them with apistogramma and other tetras like serpia and black widow ive never had any problems
