Okay so first of all, I wanna say that I live in Korea, so if you're going to tell me I'm misinformed, I definitely know.
The pet shop where you can get saltwater equipment, NOBODY speaks english it's all in Korean. I'll try to give you the most info possible but I barely know since I have no idea what they're saying.
So I knew I had to cycle the tank when I went to the fish store. However, the guy there when I asked said to put the fish in an HOUR after I put the water in and started the filter. Bad idea to listen to them, I know. I got some live rock and sand, but I don't know how much obviously because the guy once again, is a dimwit. Also, I read once I got home that you can only have the life rock and sand out of water for 10 minutes, otherwise it starts to die off. Well, they left the rock and sand out for about 2 hours because as I see now, they have no idea what they are doing.
They gave me their salt water, and I assume this is cycled water. They also sold me 3 corals, which I paid 150 dollars for only to realize they probably are not going to survive because the tank has not been cycled. I have a protein skimmer, and I'm not sure what this black thing is but it seems to be a filter- it makes the top of the water ripple and has a thermometer in it.
I also have a huge light because of the corals.
Now, upon getting home, the shop told me to put the water in, turn on all the electrical equipment, and wait an hour. I did. Then they said to put the three clown fish I bought in. Bad mistake, I know now.
I put them in, and at first they all started hovering (swimming in place, body moving, fins moving) in the left corner in front of the black box thing closest to the front glass. I thought this was weird, but looked past it.
Then, when I woke up, one of them was skimming the top of the water as if it was dead, but when the light came on it went back down to the surface so I assumed this was because it was sleeping.
To top things off, when I fed the fish ( I fed them twice today, because I thought maybe they were hovering because they were waiting for food ) only one of them was speeding around trying to catch the food. The other two just kind of kept hovering as if it didn't matter to them too much.
Oh, and cherry on the cake. After I fed, two out of three of them pooped out some white line. I read up a bit and people say it might be internal bacteria. I don't even know.
I really need help because NOTHING seems to be going right right now. I'm doing my best but this is becoming so hard and I've spent 500 dollars on this and it's getting so difficult I'm beginning to regret it. I just really need somebody to explain to me what's going on.
At the moment the light is off, and the one fish is I think sleeping at the side of the tank and the other two are swimming in place, hovering as always, near the bottom of the tank.
Someone please tell me what's going on I'm basically begging you.
