So, I bought a new betta on Monday- absolutely gorgeous, with a wonderful grey head and a blue/lilac body. (He's called Casper, as he looks a little ghostly)

Unfortunately however, I noticed the next day- his dorsal fin (I think it's called?) is split! His tail fin is also a little frayed at the ends. As he was kept in those little jars, I'm wondering if he chewed his tail or if I should treat him for fin rot. It doesn't seem to have gotten worse, and I'm keeping a close eye on him.

He also doesn't seem to want to eat, but I'll be getting some live food for him to feast on tomorrow and hope this will do the job. I'll also be adding to the plant population tomorrow and hoping sincerely that he starts eating and swimming around like a happy fish. He seems to like swimming along the front a lot and I'm hoping this is normal behaviour? He has a cave to hide in and ignores it.

He's in a 15 liter tank, with a 50l/hour filter, currently turned down a little. Parameters are:
pH: 7.4
Ammonia: Just over 0?
NitrItes: Too high (I can't tell, to be honest, purples all look the same to me)
NitrAtes: about 7~ish ppm

I did a half tank water change after looking at these figures, but haven't retested yet.

Never mind, he went back to the LFS, and I've reserved another one to pick up when my tank's ready.
