I noticed today that my ballon mollie was larger than usual and that her scales where puffed out and looked like cotton wool. And she was sitting in one of my plants panting. i have put here in a seperate tank and added some methylene blue. My guess would be that she is bloated and may have ich. Sorry i aint got any pix as my cam is not working. Can anyone help?

Do you mean the scales look like pinecomb, and they have fluffy bits on them, sounds like dropsy with columnaris as well, what are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, how many fish and which type, plus size of thank in gallons or litres.

Yes they look like pinecombs and fluffy. I'm not sure about water stats as i threw my old equipment away by accident and skint till friday. I have done a 25% water change after i moved her. The tank is about 8g with only mollies and 1 guppy in. The others seem to be ok up to now.

You could try an antibiotic but once the scales stick out that the last stage of dropsy, organ failure, sorry.

This is taken off he board.

Dropsy : One of the most disturbing of fish diseases, and is rarely cureable. Dropsy is an internal bacterial infection.

Symptoms: The fish's scales will stand out, making it have a pine comb look. Sometimes eyes can .blow up'.

Treatment : Use Kanamycin or Tetracycline and raise the temperature to about 80 degrees/ 30 deg C. This helps remove the fluid note this is rarly curablee.
