Sometimes, you can lift the airstone out of the water and let it run for a while, then put it back in and it will work.

That just made me think. Can an air stone get clogged? I know after a while algae may grow on it but does it actually clog it? :S I read somewhere on this forum that it's difficult to clean too.

quick question, how long does a air stone last for? yea i have also heard that they are very hard to clean. if it gets algae on it, just a guest but probably they best way to clean it is with a soft cloth and tweezers, also maybe warm water too. but i am sure you probably can get something from the local shop to clean it. but they might and try and just get you to buy a new.

air stones calcify and eventually can't pass air through them anymore. air stones are $.39 each, and amazingly simple to replace. just replace the air stone. there are many more expensive air stones, and fancy air bubble walls but even the most expensive of those are very inexpensive compared to other tank decorations and filters.

Makes sense. I won't bother trying to clean it either :look:

I'm not saying an air stone is bad, just not necessary as long as you have good flow and surface ripples. They are beneficial. If you like them, then by all means, use them.

Air stones such a thing of the past. I remember i filled my first tank with them.
Yes they do look nice but its really oldschool.
No fish will die if you don't have it.
