Hi everyone,

I have kind of a fish emergency on hand. Well little to my knowledge, my dalmation molly has given birth. As to how many babies, I'm unsure. I searched the aquarium for more but found one. I'm stuck now. I don't know how to protect this baby. I found the cutie while changing the aquarium water as he/she swam out from under the rock. What can I do until tomorrow to protect the baby? Can I put it into a small fishbowl with some water until I can get a net? I can't keep the baby in my aquarium also because I'm afraid it may get sucked into the filtration system (it is small enough to). I'm so excited but scared for it and wanna do what's best for the baby until I can get out tomorrow. What do you guys say I should do? I don't want the baby to die :(

Put the baby in a fish bowl till tomorrow.. Make sure you use the tank water..It should be fine. Just make sure you get it plenty of air mabey a airstone or something. You will have to worry about the mollies eating thier babies to. Also if I was you I would take a closer look in the gravel and stuff more than likely they are more babies in the tank.. If they havent got eating..ANd good luck with your new additions.

Thank you AngelLady :) And Ahmad as well:) The babies are in a small bowl with plenty of aeration. Tomorrow I'm definetely going to run out and buy the appropriate supplies. So far I've only got two:( I guess the others must have been eaten :( :/  :( I couldn't find any other babies. I sifted the water and gravel as gently as possible. It looks like there are two little girl mollies judging by their anal fins. Two dalmations, just like their mother. They appear to be commons so she must have been pregnant when I bought her unless they develop the lyretail later. Thanks so so much:) I was so worried about them and what to do.

with the fry, they are so tiny that they hide in the gravel (if you use gravel) and you have to really look for them. when my mollie had babies, i started out with 2 and 7 hours later i had 12. i also had 4 mollies, betta, platy and a pleco in the tank.

Best of luck with your fry. I hope you find more, and they do well. I bought a breeding net thinking proactively, but haven't had use for it yet (except as a hospital). I really want fry.
