Help Me Siphon This Water!

I've only got 1 air tube, 1 mouth, and dirty water... I need to learn how to siphon water the old fashion way. It doesn't work for me. I get water in my mouth and the water just goes back to the tank. And I have the tube pointing down...

Instead of sucking the water through, try this

Put the whole tube under water, making sure it is entirely full of water. Before removing it from the water, cover both ends with your thumbs to make sure the water doesn't come out. Now put one end in the tank and the other end in your bucket (thumbs still covering the ends). So long as your bucket is lower down than your tank, just take your thumbs off both ends and the water should start flowing.

Nobody likes dirty fish water in their mouth. YUCK!

Take the pipe to a tap... and fill it with tap water, thumb over each end ! And voila !
Dont forget the tank end needs to be higher than the drain (bucket ?) end...

I have never ever sucked up tank water... there is both a sound and sight indication that you've gotten it going. I don't touch my mouth to the tube either...just use my hand to create an "extension" to the tube.

That being said...I'm not advocating this method...it's far less sanitary than other priming methods, but I still use it since it seems to give a better force of water movement.

I'm not sure filing with tap water is a good idea incase some accidentally goes back into the tank. Just suck the water out of the tube while making sure the mouth end is lower than the end in the tank. Suck till the water is nearly at the end and then quickly take your mouth off and it should come out. Unless the water is really really dirty I doubt a little in your mouth will do any harm, just spit it out into the bucket!

I got the idea when my dad siphoned gas from the neighbors car years ago .

I bought a gravel vac for 6 quid and it has auto siphon on it. Works Really well. available in Pets at Home.
